ABOUT 1805 GALLERY

1805 Gallery functions as an open artist studio and exhibition space with a mission to encourage meaningful dialogue and art appreciation. To further develop this goal, 1805 Gallery launched an Artist Residency program in the Fall of 2016. The residency is an opportunity for emerging artists of all media to explore concepts unique to their practice while engaging the local community.

EXHIBITING ARTISTS

JEREMY ZIERAU
Jeremy Zierau explores human communication and the methods we use to process data. He creates semi-objective objects, renderings, and videos that focus on the late 20th-century ideology of artistic inclusiveness and the rise of the Arts & Craft stores. Zierau holds a BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art. (http://www.jzierau.com/)

CHANTAL WNUK
Chantal Wnuk is a painter and sculptor currently living and working in San Diego, CA. She was born in Houston, TX and received her BFA from the University of Texas at Austin. Using found materials and imagery, she focuses on the vulnerability of being alone versus that of being bound to another human or object. (http://www.chantalwnuk.com/)

KIM NIEHANS
Inspired by the growing disparity between ideologies in the United States Kim Niehans has created "We Love", a series of paintings that explore the individual and the collective. Niehans produces expressive imagery of animals and humans that capture psychological scenes of alienation. (http://www.kimniehansart.com/)

MELISSA WALTER
Best known for her optically stimulating sculptures of twisting paper and drawings of detailed geometric patterns, Walter visually explores concepts concerning Astronomy and astrophysical theories. Walter has worked as a graphic designer and science illustrator for NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and as a team member of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Her experience has inspired her to visually articulate wonders of the Universe, such as black holes, supernovas, neutron stars, dark matter and more recently, dark energy. (http://www.melissawalterart.com/)

ROBERT ANDRADE
Robert Andrade’s abstract, conceptual works explore the politics of modern architecture that are strategically designed to influence our movements and experiences. Andrade works within a range of familiar construction materials including concrete, aluminum, plexiglass and steel. With over fifty percent of the world’s population living in urban areas, Andrade critically engages the urban architectural structures and materials that we encounter daily. He holds a Masters of Fine Arts from Cornell University and a Bachelors of Fine Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. (http://robertmandrade.com/)

RY BELOIN
Ry Beloin is currently an artist in residence at 1805 Gallery. While in residence from October 7 to December 23, 2017, she will engage individuals from San Diego’s local community through a process of portrait sculpture that incorporates dialogue as an essential component. Beloin is well known for her hauntingly beautiful oil paintings, charcoal drawings and surreal clay sculptures. She holds a BFA in Drawing & Painting from Laguna College of Art & Design, a dually accredited college also endorsed by the Art Renewal Center.  (http://rybeloin.webs.com/)
