Work in Progress
Sculpture
My current series of watercolor paintings, Portrait of an Artist, is influenced by the myth of Icarus and demonstrates the constant mingling of contraries within ones life and art practice. The gestural figures examine the struggle of balance between control & chaos, passion & intellect, feminine & masculine, failure & success etc. The figures echo a universal paradox within ourselves.
The dynamic works on paper have recently inspired a large scale sculpture. Wings that wrap the suspended figure are filled with tinted wax. When the light shines down after extended periods of time the wax will soften and drip down the figure. As the figure spontaneously paints itself, the wax will collect on the surface of a mirror that lies below.
I am so pleased to announce that the completed sculpture along with a grouping of watercolor paintings will be featured for the New Contemporaries VII exhibition at Meyer Fine Art in Little Italy May 9, 2014 to June 28,2014.
The opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 6-9pm
