Chris, Ariana and Emily will lead a group in experiencing Pauline Oliveros' Tuning Meditation, a legendary vocal improvisation piece in which the entire audience collaborates to create an ephemeral sonic event.
About the Artists
Chris Warren creates interactive sonic software that reimagines the way we hear the world around us. His transformative installations have been featured at the Museum of Making Music, the Fleet Science Center, and the Havana Biennial. Dr. Warren teaches music composition at San Diego State University and the University of San Diego.
Ariana Warren began her musical career in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Warren earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Contemporary Music Performance from the University of California, San Diego and Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory. Dr. Warren has played around the world, and currently performs in San Diego with Joe Garrison and the Night People, San Diego City Ballet Orchestra, A Hundred Ghosts, Opera Neo, and Sugarbird.
Emily Aust holds an MFA in Dance Theatre from the University of California San Diego. Her primary dance and performance studies include: Contemporary Dance techniques; Improvisation ensemble collaboration, Contact Improvisation, writing and Classical and Contemporary Theatre performance techniques. Her current research is linked through embodiment practices and community interaction. She seeks engagement in dance making that serves to cultivate an embodied relationship between place, people and their environment in order to effect change in the ways we know the world.
