The residency is an opportunity for emerging artists of all media to explore concepts unique to their practice while engaging the local community.
EXHIBITING ARTISTS
JEREMY ZIERAU
Jeremy Zierau explores human communication and the methods we use to process data. He creates semi-objective objects, renderings, and videos that focus on the late 20th-century ideology of artistic inclusiveness and the rise of the Arts & Craft stores. Zierau holds a BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art. (http://www.jzierau.com/)
CHANTAL WNUK
Chantal Wnuk is a painter and sculptor currently living and working in San Diego, CA. She was born in Houston, TX and received her BFA from the University of Texas at Austin. KIM NIEHANS
Inspired by the growing disparity between ideologies in the United States Kim Niehans has created "We Love", a series of paintings that explore the individual and the collective. Niehans produces expressive imagery of animals and humans that capture psychological scenes of alienation. (http://www.kimniehansart.com/)
MELISSA WALTER
Best known for her optically stimulating sculptures of twisting paper and drawings of detailed geometric patterns, Walter visually explores concepts concerning Astronomy and astrophysical theories. Walter has worked as a graphic designer and science illustrator for NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and as a team member of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Her experience has inspired her to visually articulate wonders of the Universe, such as black holes, supernovas, neutron stars, dark matter and more recently, dark energy.
